Description
Nestor Kea is world´s only mountain parrot, endemic to New Zealand, which can only be found on its South Island. Although they are highly endangered, with only few thousands of them left in the wilderness, it is not that rare to come across them while moving around mountains. This curious fella found me while I was visiting Arthur´s Pass National Park and approached me in hope that he would get something to eat from me. One of the reasons why their population is shrinking is also fact that they are getting used to people, relying on us to feed them and therefore loosing their natural instincts. So if you´ll be lucky to meet one of them, please do not feed them, it is not only illegal in New Zealand, but also bad for their health and future.
